Veronica Wallace

One of Heart of Birmingham’s own spoke at the October meeting.  Veronica Wallace was on point sharing her information on starting a business.  Wallace whose topic entitled In the Midst of the Jump, spoke on the ins and outs of business startup and when to deploy a parachute.  Wallace explained “Failure is not an Option” and the three “P’s” to consider in the midst  of the jump to entrepreneurship: Evaluate the Plan, Evaluate the Purpose, and Deploy the Parachute.  Ms. Wallace shared valuable points to consider and members were appreciative.  She is a young entrepreneur who is owner of Chef’s Plated Bliss catering and a hospice care consultant for one of the top healthcare companies in the U.S. and engaged to be married soon.  A big Thanks and hug to Ms. Wallace.

 

MINUTES

Secretary and Treasurer Reports were presented in written format and presented to members.  Both reports passed and the Treasurer’s Report was filed for audit.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Committee Reports

The Hospitality chair, received a Thank you note from Helen Shirley for the love token mailed to her on behalf of HOB.  Fundraising committee chair, Nancy Reed distributed forms for Pecan and Boston Butt sales.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

A motion was made by Sara Cooley to adopt the ABWA National Code of Code yearly.  The Code of Conduct denotes who we are and how we conduct our business.

Nancy Reed seconded the motion, and it was passed.  Executive Board Members met and reviewed the GAP Analysis

Gap Analysis/Member Interest Survey: The Executive Board Members met on 10/9/16 to
review and analyze the GAP Analysis as well as the Members Interest Survey. Results of
both surveys were analyzed and results were distributed to the HOB members and the
discussion of the results was led by President Carol Skelton.
Girl Scouts/Opportunity To Give Back: The opportunity to give back with the Girl Scouts
has been reschedule to a January date. Further details will be provided later.
Alabama Council Meeting: The Alabama Council meeting is scheduled for November 11th and 12th  .The Friday night business meeting will be at Jim N Nicks on Oxmoor at 6:30pm.
The Saturday brunch will be held at the Hampton Inn in Homewood beginning at 9:00am to
12N. Guest Speaker Tijuana Everhart will speak on the Mindset of An Effective Leader. This
new format of the Council meeting is a trial to create a more intimate setting and a better
use of time for our members attending an event on Saturday.
Southern Women Show. Sara Cooley reported that the Southern Women show went well.
Standing Rules:
The Standing Rules of the Heart of Birmingham Chapter of the American
Business Women Association was revised and adopted on October 18, 2016. A motion was
made by Sara Cooley to accept the revisions as so noted in the document. Nancy Reed
seconded the motion. The motion was passed. For the record, revisions were made in the
items listed below:
